The Importance of Goals, Part 3

By Kendall Smith, Induron Sales Representative

Aim HigherGoals are very important to a small company like Induron. In our previous two blogs, you can read Linc York’s thoughts on making SMART goals and celebrating successes as well as how goal-setting has fueled Tex Enoch’s career.  Today, I’ll discuss how goal-setting can help your company compete with others.

In my opinion, the key to beating big companies that tend to have rigid goals (quotas) for sales is to aim high and have “the long game” in mind.  Continue reading The Importance of Goals, Part 3

The Importance of Goals, Part 2

By Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Representative

Goal AheadLast week, fellow Induron Sales Representative, Linc York and our President, Davies Hood kicked off the Importance of Goals blog series with a post focusing on making SMART goals and celebrating successes. Check out his blog post here. Today, I’m going to illustrate how setting goals has fueled my career at Induron.

Since starting work at Induron, I’ve changed my goals strategically each year, but my focus remains on market penetration rather than sales.  Continue reading The Importance of Goals, Part 2

The Importance of Goals, Part 1

By Linc York, Induron Sales Representative and Davies Hood, Induron President

PR SailboatAt Induron, goals are very important. Our President, Davies Hood, sets goals for our company as a whole each year, but he also encourages us to (or requires us to) make our own personal and professional goals.

Davies asked several of us to share our thoughts on goal making for a blog series. I worked hard to achieve my goals in 2015, and I’m honored that Davies asked me to contribute.  Continue reading The Importance of Goals, Part 1

Why I Don’t Make Resolutions

MISSION STATEMENT smallBy Davies Hood, Induron President

It’s the time of year when everyone is talking about New Year’s Resolutions. And that’s fine… if you’ve got a personal goal to lose weight, quit smoking or stop biting your nails.

But if you’re a manager, I urge you – don’t make resolutions for your business.

Make goals instead. Continue reading Why I Don’t Make Resolutions

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Induron!

holiday pecansOne of our favorite Christmas traditions in giving this very desirable gift to clients, colleagues and friends. Pecans! It doesn’t get much more Southern than that, which is perfect since we are headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.

We are so thankful to everyone we work with for helping make 2015 a fantastic one for Induron. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Merry Christmas, and we’ll see you in 2016!

The Real Santa Claus

Daddy as Santa 6 by 4 (3)By David Hood, Induron CEO

In December of 1947, my dad, William E. Hood, decided to put Christmas lights on his house to celebrate Christmas. It might not sound like a big deal, but we were just coming out of wartime when doing something like putting up lights would have been inconceivable.

He was on the roof of our 3-2 frame house on a 50 foot lot wearing a red jumpsuit when someone drove by and exclaimed, “That looks like Santa Claus!!!” Continue reading The Real Santa Claus

Dancing in the Nutcracker with my Daughters and My Dog

betsy muttcrackerBy Davies Hood, Induron CEO

Being a part of the Birmingham Ballet’s annual production of “The Nutcracker” is something I’ve blogged about in the past. It’s always a popular topic, especially since it automatically gives people visions of me dancing in tights. (You’d rather have visions of sugar plums dancing in your head, believe me.) And I don’t actually wear tights, but I do cross-dress. Continue reading Dancing in the Nutcracker with my Daughters and My Dog

How to Coach a Team

coachingBy Jeff White

I read this article recently titled, “How to use social media to create happy employees.” In my opinion, with a change to some of the examples it could aptly be titled, “How to coach a team.”

Here are a couple of the highlights with my spin on them:

Embrace Your Company Culture. The article talks about sharing your company culture Continue reading How to Coach a Team

The Best Ways to Keep Employees Happy

Davies Hood headshotBy Davies Hood, Induron President

As an executive in a small business, I certainly don’t claim to have all the answers on how to “keep employees happy.” However, when I think about it, I think I know someone who does – Ric Michaels, my first grade teacher.

I’m not comparing Induron’s employees to first graders. But I am saying that keeping employees – or any other group of people – happy and productive requires the things we all learned, or should have learned, very early in life from a good role model. Story of this Photo: Cooking for the Team and the Wild One

Billy Hood BBQInduron loves getting together for a good cook-out. We’ve been known to have company events for various holidays, and barbeque of some sort is often on the menu. Even at our plant expansion ribbon cutting ceremony a couple of years ago we served classic Dreamland BBQ in a huge white tent for lunch.

This tradition goes way back as demonstrated in this first photo of Induron founder, William E. Hood ca. 1955. This particular event was held for Christmas one year to thank our factory guys. The grill is made out of a paint (or resin) drum, which is certainly not something you see very often. Our barbecue events are often celebrations of the great people we have working at our company.
