A Long Line of Induron Mentors

David Hood with one of his mentors and father, William Hood

By David Hood, Induron CEO

My father, William E. Hood, was a true Southern gentleman. His reputation for being kind, humorous, respectful and giving has long outlived him. He is still remembered as Santa Clause because he dressed up each Christmas and entertained children for years from his home on Memory Lane in Birmingham.

He is also well remembered by the paint industry for his many contributions to the industry, including serving as the first industry President of the National Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Association (now known as the American Coatings Association). Continue reading A Long Line of Induron Mentors

The Key to Success

John AnspachBy John Anspach, VP Operations

In a paint company, as in most companies, there are multiple departments that must work effectively together to ensure the success of the organization.  In a nutshell, there are a lot of moving parts, literally and figuratively.

It is easy to become compartmentalized, or focused only on your one job in your department, while forgetting the big picture. This can quickly result in delaying or altogether missing key communication between departments – the key to success. Continue reading The Key to Success

The Many Hats of Small Business

Allison SearcyBy Allison Searcy, Induron Sales Support

Working for a small, family-owned company like Induron means that I wear many hats. My job is always different, and I never know what the day will bring.

I began working at Induron seven years ago in sales support, but since then, my duties have grown to include all kinds of things – from invoicing and accounting, to purchasing the raw materials used in our products. Continue reading The Many Hats of Small Business

The Best Things About Independence Day

iStock_000009509714_SmallAt Induron, we are very proud to be an American company. We’ve been here a long time, and we plan to continue to be here for a lot longer. We have sales representatives who are spread out all over this great country, and we all love the Fourth of July holiday and celebrate it in different ways wherever we are.

“The 4th of July commemorates the signing of the documents which define us. We read the entire Declaration every year on the fourth to remind us of the great ideas on which our country was founded.” David Hood, Induron CEO Continue reading The Best Things About Independence Day

Induron Sales Reward Trip, Part II

PR Sailboat smallWe’re still talking about our recent company sales reward trip to Puerto Rico, so here are a few more thoughts from those who attended about what the trip meant to them. See more responses in this blog post.

“I think it reinforced that a small company, committed to doing things the “right” way, can still be successful, profitable and afford its employees such experiences. My little knowledge, or awareness, of such company sponsored trips have always seemed to be reserved for the mega corporations of the world. Continue reading Induron Sales Reward Trip, Part II

Look Beneath the Surface

Our awesome operations team

By Davies Hood

“Induron: Look Beneath the Surface.”  That’s our tag-line, but it’s way more than just that. It’s who we are.

Sure, it’s a play on words, because we are in the paint business and paint is used to protect or beautify the surface level.  We also have some competitors who look really good on the surface, but don’t have much substance underneath. Continue reading Look Beneath the Surface

Resolutions for 2015

Happy New Year! Whether you’re a fan of resolutions or not, the start of a new year is a perfect time to set goals and think about what you want to accomplish throughout the upcoming year.

At Induron, we have a few goals for our company as a whole:

  1. Live up to our four core values in the eyes of our customers and employees –Integrity, Respect, Reliability & Innovation.
  2. Increase revenue 5% by further engaging current customers and successfully entering new markets where value and service dominate.
  3. Ad quality individuals who fit our culture to the Induron Family (at least 3).

We also encourage our employees to set personal goals for themselves. Here are some thoughts from a few of our sales reps about what they are planning and looking forward to in 2015:

“This year I want to set up my Linkedin account, I know it’s 2015, so I guess I need to get with the times! Besides it’s better than changing my diet that I’ll only adhere to until the middle of February.” Kent Kuehl, NE, IA & SD

“My goal is to spend more time with my 84 year old Dad who is not in good health. Seems like now days we get so caught up in work and other activities with kids etc. we forget things that really matter and who taught us the things/work ethic that have helped us get to where we are today. I’d also like to commit to a regular exercise program. I say this each year and never seem to be able to stick with it.”  Carl Moye, GA

“MyNew Year’s resolution is to be the best grandfather ever! We are expecting our first grandchild February 1!” Richard Belliveau, Upper Mid-West

“My personal resolutions are to be a better brother and cousin by engaging my only sister and only cousin at least once a year. I’d also like to continue to revise the “Induron Way” with our sales team through training and better communication. And I want to have at least five one-on-one dates with each of my daughters doing something special with them.” Davies Hood, Induron President

The REAL Santa Claus in Birmingham’s History

By David Hood, Induron CEO

It’s December, 1947. It has been six years since the “day that lived in infamy,” the war is over and mankind is beginning to return to “normal.” The Industrial Paint Company, Inc. (which would later become Induron Coatings) is about six months old.

Christmas is approaching, and my dad decided to put lights on the house to celebrate — something not conceivable during wartime. He was on the roof of our 3-2 frame house on a 50 foot lot wearing a red jumpsuit when someone drove by and exclaimed, “That looks like Santa Claus!!!” Continue reading The REAL Santa Claus in Birmingham’s History

On Traditions in Football and at Induron

By John Bickel, Induron Sales Rep

On November 22, my wife and I were fortunate enough to attend the University of Louisville vs. Notre Dame football game in South Bend, Indiana along with another Induron Coatings couple and a client with his wife.

At Induron, we love tradition and connecting with our clients like this is a big part of that. If we’re able to connect at sporting events, that’s even better.

And talk about tradition. How about words, names or phrases you have heard all your life, like “Touchdown Jesus,” “The Golden Dome,”  “Fighting Irish,” “Knute Rockne,” and “Four Horsemen.” The list goes on, and on and on. Continue reading On Traditions in Football and at Induron
