In order to better serve its surrounding community, Ralls County in Hannibal, Missouri planned to construct a new water treatment plant. Klingner and Associates, a multi-office engineering group in the midwest, was awarded the challenge to design the new facility.
Induron Protective Coatings’s ceramic-pigmented coatings were selected for the project because it required a diverse group of coatings products. The ceramic spheres that make up part of the pigment package in Induron’s ceramic epoxies pack a lot of power to add effective layers of protection for both steel and concrete substrates. The ceramic spheres allow the manufacturer to pack more pigment into a film of paint, which results in reduced permeability, increased film build and prohibited microbial growth. Plus, the ceramic epoxies provide a surface that has better adhesion than cohesion, which means ceramic epoxies are almost self-healing.
Critical areas of the water treatment plant, such as the clearwell required a flexible, NSF 61/600 100% Solids Ceramic Epoxy System to provide the long-term performance. Induron’s PermaClean 100 Epoxy, a fast-curing, 100% solids epoxy tank lining for potable water applications, was the ideal coating for this purpose.
R.P. Coatings, another long-time partner of Induron, was awarded this project as a result of their well-established track record and history of coating both new and refurbished water and wastewater treatment plants.
As a result, the water treatment plant facility, particularly the clearwell, not only looks great but also continues to perform as designed. This project exemplifies a thorough effort by three companies coming together to exceed the client’s expectations with an impressive design, quality contractor work, and innovative industrial coatings.
