In the summer of 2009, Bazan Painting Co. and Induron Protective Coatings teamed up to paint the 200-foot-tall Italgrani Flour Mill Elevator located on the Mississippi River in St. Louis Missouri.
My mentor and predecessor, Linc York wrote a blog titled “Before, After and Later” as a 5-year follow-up on the project that you can read here.
The concrete façade of the elevator was dirty, chalky and a general eyesore. Ownership wanted to change that image of decay with a coat of paint. The project had its own set of difficulties, as do most projects. It was a time sensitive project involving several challenging factors. Plus, to be competitive price wise and ensure the project was finished on time, the coating needed to be both rolled and sprayed. There was wind blowing off the river, nearby businesses and plenty of vehicles to be concerned with. It was not just a simple “blow and go” application.
With all those factors in mind, the specified product needed to be a true “dry-fall.” It needed to provide excellent adhesion to both previously coated and uncoated concrete and metal. And lastly, the situation required that the new coating provide mold and mildew resistance and be available in a low sheen finish.
These requirements led us to specify Aquanaut II Low Luster, a single component, water borne, low luster acrylic coating that offers superior flow and leveling characteristics as well as excellent dry fall capabilities.
If you read the original blog, you will realize how much the contractor appreciated the dry fall properties and how important it is to have confidence in the coating to perform at a high level. Induron’ s products were perfect for this project! Now, it has been 10 years since the project was completed, and the elevator looks as good as new!
So, as a N.A.C.E Certified Coatings Inspector, I want to send a simple message…
Induron’ s Aquanaut II Low Luster or High Gloss finishes, with Dry Fall Properties, exceeds the expectation of common acrylic coatings. Do not hesitate to call your local representative!
