Georgia Southern University (GSU), located in Statesboro, GA, was experiencing flooring issues in its Newton Hall Building, which endures heavy student traffic. I began working with GSU on this project two years ago, and in May 2017, we finally received approval to move forward.
The goal was to complete the project between GSU’s summer and fall semesters when students would not be entering and exiting the building. This plan gave us a narrow window of 14 days to complete the project. In order to get the job done, I brought Hunter Prim, owner of Flooring Coating Specialists in Macon, GA, into the project with me. In early June 2017, Hunter and I met with the GSU team to discuss the project and visit the job site.
Following the meeting, Hunter prepared samples of Induron’s PermaTuff SL at his shop for the GSU team to evaluate. PermaTuff SL is a two-component, 99% solids, highly cross-linked, self-leveling epoxy floor coating. It provides a high-gloss, seamless surface that is extremely hard wearing, durable, stain and chemically resistant. It can also accommodate a wide-range of flooring conditions since its film thickness can be varied. These properties made it the ideal coating for GSU’s floors. Once the GSU team approved the samples of PermaTuff SL, Flooring Coating Specialists submitted a proposal that was approved by the GSU Team.
On Monday, July 31, 2017, Flooring Coating Specialists started the project and completed it by Friday, August 11, despite facing weather complications. During this time, Flooring Specialties applied 4 coats of PermaTuff SL with a double broadcast of grit for anti-slip safety precautions. Brian Sowell, GSU’s Project Manager was extremely satisfied with the PermaTuff SL flooring system and the timely project execution. He said, “Flooring Specialties guys did a GREAT job of getting on site and completing the job in a timely manner.” Induron is equally proud of the project and enjoyed working with the entire project team!
