Pictured here is the elevated water tank located at the Mid Delta Regional Airport in Greenville, MS.
I recently visited Greenville, MS to give a presentation. Since I was in the area, I decided to go check out a job Induron completed 7 years ago. Just as I had hoped for and expected, the tank looked great! Seven years doesn’t sound like much, especially these days when we expect exterior finish coats to last 15-20 years, but let’s look a little harder at the photo.
We have a pre-WW2, riveted, lattice-legged, elevated potable water storage tank. Now, factor in the lead paint that was removed, the fact that this needed to be shrouded, and its location, which is by an airstrip and parking lot in the Mississippi Delta (southern flat land) not far from the Mississippi river. The tank site is hot, humid and provides no protection from any of the elements. Let’s finish with a nice International Orange and Polar White color scheme, and you have all the makings of a tank that is very difficult to coat, located in an aggressive environment, and painted in colors that do not weather well.
Despite the difficult conditions, the coatings have performed well enough for this tank to look like it was painted yesterday. With the proper specification of systems by Induron (namely the polyurethane clear coat finish) combined with the rigorous inspections performed by W.L. Burle Engineers, this tank is proving to be an asset that all parties involved can be proud of.
