Solving Challenges One Project at a Time

pickering plantBy Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Rep

Some projects move right along and stay on course from the beginning with little or no challenge. This is a good thing, but what’s the fun in that? One project we did a few years ago proved to be an opportunity for forward thinking and innovation in the midst of complexities.

When I.K. Stoltzfus was hired to repaint a wash water tank and a two million-gallon clearwell for Aqua Pennsylvania at their Pickering treatment facility, they contacted Induron for the tools for the job. The Pickering Water Treatment Plant services approximately 1 million customers in Southeast Pennsylvania and produces more than 55 million gallons of treated water daily. It is a critical component to the area served by Aqua PA. For this reason, the project was scheduled to be done between October 1 and June 15 when demand for water would be at its lowest. Success at AWWA National Meeting

By Tex Enoch

Oftentimes, national conventions are dominated by large companies who have the money and manpower to overwhelm attendees with ostentatious displays and aisle space.  Smaller companies must be much more selective in their approach.  Because their budgets are much smaller, their focus must be on careful planning and targeted customer selection.  Continue reading Success at AWWA National Meeting

30 Years of AWWA ACE Conventions

By Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Rep

The first of many American Water Works Association (AWWA) Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE) Conventions occurred for me over 30 years ago in San Francisco.

Although I worked for a small, very regional, paint manufacturing company, Pennsbury Coatings, it was decided that I should participate in that meeting. Continue reading 30 Years of AWWA ACE Conventions

Corporate Values – Do they still have a place in today’s business environment?

By Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Rep

Induron's Values: Integrity, Respect, Reliability, InnovationMore than 40 years ago, I went to work for my father, who had just started Pennsbury Coatings Corporation, a small, family-owned coatings manufacturing company. Work was different then – no fax machines, no internet, no cell phones (some of us refer to them as “the good ol’ days”).  We did business on land lines and through the Post Office.  We also refined the art of the sales call.  Back then, a contract was simply a hand shake.

Five years ago, I found myself unemployed and began looking for a company that represented what my father’s company stood for:  a company that did what it promised, provided reliable and cutting-edge products, treated its customers like valued friends and offered its customers help if they needed it.

Induron Protective Coatings is a small, family-owned business that has allowed me to thrive in an environment that trusts its employees to work for the betterment of the company, as well as the industries that it serves.  We try very hard to keep all the promises we make and never make a promise we can’t keep.  It is a philosophy that serves us well.  Continue reading Corporate Values – Do they still have a place in today’s business environment?

Relationship Selling

By Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Representative

We live in a fast-paced world.  The internet and cell phones have dramatically improved sales people’s ability to increase their customer base.  However, at the same time, these tools have also enhanced our productivity, thus decreasing the response time demanded by both their employer and customers.

I began my career having to use payphones to make calls on the road and snail-mail to confirm almost everything else.  Everything was much slower, but much more personal.  Office visits were encouraged, lunches and dinners were commonplace and relationships were established.

As someone who’s been in the sales business for a long time, I know that lasting relationships cannot be built via e-mail and cell phone contact.  Personal interaction is necessary, and the longer that contact can be maintained, the stronger the relationship will become.

So just how valuable IS relationship selling? I believe it accomplishes two vital aspects of the selling process:

  • Establishing you as the expert. Having a strong relationship with a client means that the he or she will naturally turn to you as his expert.  When a question or product need arises, the sales rep with the strongest relationship will be asked to solve the problem, provide advice or establish the product criteria for the project about to be designed. You’re Invited!

By Tex Enoch, Induron Sales Representative

Induron Coatings would like to invite all engineers, water system owners and other interested individuals in the Mid-Atlantic region to an informative seminar hosted by Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) at the Courtyard Marriott Pentagon in Alexandria, VA, on May 10.

During this day-long informative seminar, we’ll cover all aspects of water storage tanks, including applicable standards and all phases of design, construction and protection.

Each segment of the seminar will be presented by a recognized professional in that particular field. I am proud to be presenting a segment entitled “The Tank Coatings Process,” and will also participate in the “Total Cost of Ownership” segment as well.

I know how busy you all are, but this is a truly worthwhile event that can help you make reasonable decisions when selecting and protecting your steel water storage tanks. Plus, engineers will receive CEUs for attending. Please click here to view a brochure about the event.

I hope to see you all on May 10!

The Proof Really IS in the Coating

By Tex Enoch, Induron Water Tank Market Manager

Water and Wastes Digest recently published an article by Tony Stellema entitled, “The Proof is in the Coating.” The article discusses why a quality coating application on a steel storage tank is vital to the tank’s durability.

Stellema touched on many of the points that are important in selecting the proper coating system for protecting steel tanks:

  1. Choosing the correct system to handle the contained liquid
  2. Proper surface preparation and inspection
  3. Methods of holiday detection Continue reading The Proof Really IS in the Coating
